DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES OF COLORING USING COLOR PENCILS
- HATCHING
Draw parallel lines by lifting the pencil after every stroke to fill up the area. They can be closer or far apart. Spacing will determine the intensity of the color – Closer strokes will be darker. - CROSS HATCHING
Do hatching technique first in a single direction then intersect the lines. It creates different texture and depth. When the lines at different angles it highlights the details and depth. - HEAVY PRESSURE
Apply heavy strong pressure with the pencil. Pressure comes from the forearm to fingers. Can do vertical strokes or horizontal strokes depending upon the shape of the object that needs to be covered. Heavy pressure gives you smooth; bold and opaque color. To give heavy pressure hold the pencil closer to the tip. - LIGHT PRESSURE
Using very gentle strokes, hold the pencil slightly far away from the tip. Light pressure is good for creating gradient and layering. - GRADIENT
Gradient is gradual – either from dark to light color or from light to dark color by varying the pressure. Color from light to medium to dark pressure or vice versa (from dark to medium to light pressure). - BLENDING
Blending is seamlessly merging with two colors. You can choose any two colors with heavy; medium to light pressure. - LAYERING
Layering is type of blending. You can layer the two colors to get the third color. It can be drawn with light or dark color or with two colors of the same hue to get depth and richness. - BURNISHING
Cover the area first with one color. On top of it color with a different color. Add the third colour with heavy pressure after finishing the layering. It gives smooth, waxy shiny and a polished finish. After finishing one can not add any color on top.
